Section: Dungeons 1 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 19.10.2026

The Beast is a level 62 elite boss in Upper Blackrock Spire, a huge creature in a lair on the way to General Drakkisath. It is famous for having Finkle Einhorn stuck inside it: he climbs out when the corpse is skinned.

Tactics

Fire and melee. The Beast hits hard in melee and deals fire damage — the tank turns it away from the group, melee don't stack.
Fear. The boss periodically fears nearby players: warriors keep Berserker Rage ready, dwarf priests put Fear Ward on the tank, and no unpulled packs should be nearby.
Tank and healer check on peak incoming damage; on x5 bring solid damage so the fight doesn't drag.

Finkle Einhorn and the Pristine Hide

If your group has a character with 310 skinning, skin The Beast's corpse — Finkle Einhorn pops out. The corpse usually yields Rugged Leather and Rugged Hide, and about 2% of the time the Pristine Hide of the Beast. Finkle takes it for the quests Cap of the Scarlet Savant, Leggings of Arcana and Breastplate of Bloodthirst, each rewarding the item of the same name.

Why it matters

The Beast is one of the last stops before General Drakkisath, and Finkle Einhorn (an Ace Ventura parody) is one of Vanilla's best-known "easter egg" NPCs.
