WoW Classic Paladin Talents: Holy, Retribution and Protection
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruPaladin — blessings, healing and plate
The Paladin is an Alliance hybrid: heavy armour, powerful blessings and one of the most mana-efficient healing kits in Vanilla. On WoW Classic X5 Paladins are recruited primarily as healers, and their blessings alone justify a raid slot.
Talent tree overview
| Tree | Role | Where it shines |
|---|---|---|
| Holy | Healing | Raids, dungeons |
| Retribution | Melee DPS | PvP, leveling |
| Protection | Tank | Dungeons, off-tanking |
Build #1: Holy Raid (31/11/9)
The raid healing standard.
Holy (31 points): Divine Strength, Spiritual Focus 5/5, Illumination 5/5, Improved Lay on Hands, Healing Light 3/3, Divine Favor 1/1, Holy Shock 1/1.
Protection (11 points): Improved Devotion Aura, Redoubt, Guardian's Favor.
Retribution (9 points): Benediction 5/5, Improved Judgement.
Illumination returns mana on every healing crit — it is the single reason a Holy Paladin can heal an entire Molten Core boss on one mana bar. Stack spell crit alongside healing power, not instead of it.
Blessings in a raid
| Blessing | Target | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Blessing of Might | Melee | Attack power |
| Blessing of Wisdom | Casters and healers | Mana regeneration |
| Blessing of Kings | Anyone (talented) | +10% to all stats |
| Blessing of Salvation | Non-tanks | −30% threat |
| Blessing of Freedom | Situational | Removes movement impairment |
Build #2: Retribution PvP (0/9/42)
Retribution (42 points): Improved Seal of the Crusader, Conviction 5/5, Two-Handed Weapon Specialization 5/5, Sanctity Aura 1/1, Repentance 1/1, Vengeance 5/5.
Protection (9 points): Improved Devotion Aura, Guardian's Favor for Blessing of Freedom.
The PvP burst chain is Seal of Command → Judgement → Hammer of Justice → Repentance on a second target. With a two-handed weapon and Vengeance stacked, a Retribution Paladin bursts down cloth wearers in seconds.
Build #3: Protection Tank (8/33/10)
Protection (33 points): Improved Devotion Aura 5/5, Redoubt 5/5, Toughness 5/5, Blessing of Sanctuary 1/1, Improved Righteous Fury 3/3, Shield Specialization 5/5, Holy Shield-style threat through Consecration.
Consecration plus Righteous Fury makes Paladins excellent at holding multiple targets — they are the best AoE tanks in Vanilla dungeons, even though Warriors remain the raid main tanks.

WoW Classic X5 tips
1. On x5 level as Retribution and respec to Holy at 60 — that is the fastest path into raids. 2. Keep a full set of reagents: Blessing management is your main raid job. 3. Divine Shield plus a mount is the safest way to travel and to save a wipe. 4. Spell crit is worth more than raw healing power at low gear levels because of Illumination.

FAQ
Which paladin build is used in raids?
Holy (31/11/9). A Holy Paladin is the most mana-efficient single-target healer in Vanilla thanks to Illumination and Holy Shock, and the blessings are raid-defining.
Can a Retribution Paladin raid?
It is possible but inefficient: Retribution damage lags well behind Warriors and Rogues. Retribution shines in PvP and while leveling.
Can a Paladin tank in WoW Classic?
A Protection Paladin tanks dungeons well thanks to Consecration and Holy Shield-style threat from Righteous Fury, but Warriors remain the raid main tanks.
