Priest PvE Rotation: Ability Priority and Cooldowns
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ru# Priest PvE Rotation: Ability Priority and Cooldowns
A correct priest rotation is not a memorized sequence but a priority system: you pick the most valuable available ability at each moment. Below is a working PvE scheme for the WoW Classic X5 server (x5 rates, patch 1.12.1).
Role and Spec
A priest is a top raid Holy/Discipline healer. Shadow damage is also viable as a caster DPS. Both rotations are covered below.
Ability Priority
| # | Ability | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Holy — Renew | Keep the HoT on the tank for steady topping-off. |
| 2 | Holy — Greater Heal (downranked) | Your main heal; pick ranks by incoming damage to save mana. |
| 3 | Holy — Flash Heal | Emergency fast top-off under spike damage. |
| 4 | Holy — Power Word: Shield | Shield the tank/yourself before heavy hits. |
| 5 | Shadow — SW:Pain → Mind Blast → Mind Flay | Keep the DoT, Mind Blast on cooldown, Mind Flay as filler. |
Opener (Pull)
Holy opener: pre-pull Power Word: Fortitude, Shadow Protection if needed, Renew on the tank, Inner Fire on yourself. Shadow opener: Shadowform → Shadow Word: Pain → Mind Blast → Mind Flay, keeping DoTs up.
Cooldowns and Consumables
Holy: Inner Focus (free crit cast), mana/spellpower trinkets, mana potions, Prayer of Healing on group damage. Shadow: keep 5 stacks of Shadow Weaving, mana potions. Fade drops Shadow threat.
Common Mistakes
Don't always heal with max rank — downranking saves mana. Avoid overlapping heals with other healers (overheal). As Shadow, watch threat (Fade) and keep both DoTs up.

FAQ
Holy or Discipline for raids?
Usually a Disc/Holy hybrid (e.g. 2/23/26). Discipline brings mana efficiency and Power Infusion, Holy brings healing power. Pure Shadow fills a DPS slot.
Why downrank heals as a priest?
Lower-rank Greater Heal heals almost as much from +heal but costs far less mana — key to surviving long fights on mana.
Is a Shadow priest viable in PvE?
Yes, as a caster DPS with the unique Shadow Weaving debuff for the raid. Usually one Shadow priest, the rest heal.
