Retribution Paladin is a two-handed melee fighter with seals and strong party buffs. In raids it trails warriors and rogues on damage, but brings unique blessings, auras and seals, while shining on leveling and in PvP with burst and survivability. On WowX5 x5 ret is a great pick for players who want to both hit and support the group.

What this build is for

Ret is a hybrid melee spec:

  • Leveling — strong burst, self-healing and buffs speed up the grind.
  • PvP — Seal of Command, stuns and the bubble deliver surprise burst.
  • Raids — brought situationally for Sanctity Aura, blessings and Seal of Wisdom for the group.

Do not expect top raid DPS from ret, but as a "buffer with damage" it earns a slot.

Seal of Command is the core. The Holy splash via Illumination keeps you from going dry on seals and judgements.

Rotation and play

Keep up Seal of Command (or Seal of Righteousness), auto-attack for procs, and cast Judgement just before the seal expires for a burst. Maintain Blessing of Might on yourself and run Retribution Aura or Sanctity Aura.

Stats and gear

Ret priority: strength → hit (to the cap) → crit → weapon skill. You want a slow two-handed weapon with a high top-end so seals and judgements hit harder.
