Mage — a ranged caster with control and utility. The mage delivers top caster damage, keeps a target in Polymorph, kites with Frost Nova and Blink, and out of combat is the king of AoE gold farming and boosts. It hands the group food, water, Intellect and portals. The downside: fragility - caught up close without control a mage dies fast, and its burst is tied to cooldowns and mana.

Pick the rogue if you love melee, stealth, explosive burst from the shadows and want one of the best classes for duels and raid melee DPS. Pick the mage if you prefer ranged combat, Polymorph control, the best gold farming and raid utility. The rogue is a selfish assassin; the mage is an all-rounder with money, control and group value.

Tips on the x5 server

On x5 both come online fast - the rogue via cheap weapons, the mage via AoE farming.
As a rogue, keep poisons ready - they are a notable part of your damage.
As a mage, drill your kite: Frost Nova, Blink and Polymorph save you from melee like the rogue.
