Protection Warrior — Build, Talents and Threat
The Protection warrior is WoW Classic's benchmark main tank. Deep Protection, Defensive Stance and the Shield Slam + Revenge combo give the best threat and survivability in raids. For solo farming and easy dungeons warriors sometimes take Fury or Arms, but tanking bosses is Protection's job.
A tank's main threat comes from Revenge and Shield Slam on cooldown plus constant Sunder Armor. Save Bloodrage for the opening rage burst and never drop Sunder — it holds threat and shreds the boss's armor.

What this build is for
Protection is the warrior's best tank spec:
- Raids — the main tank on bosses: maximum threat and survivability.
- Dungeons — confident pack control through Thunder Clap and Revenge.
- World/PvP — sturdy but slow; other trees are better for arena/dueling.
Its weak point is low personal damage: Protection lives for threat and survival, not DPS.

Shield Slam is the core of threat and requires a shield; Improved Sunder Armor makes stacks cheaper and holds aggro.
Rotation and threat
Stay in Defensive Stance, open with Bloodrage and stack 5x Sunder Armor. Then use Revenge and Shield Slam on cooldown, refresh Bloodrage, and on packs add Thunder Clap and Demoralizing Shout.

Stats and gear
Priority: defense (to 440) → stamina → armor/block → strength and hit for threat. First remove crushing blows with the defense cap, then build a health buffer and threat.

For raid tanking take deep Protection: Shield Slam, Improved Taunt and survivability are critical. Fury tanks work for fast dungeons but fall behind in raids.
