WoW Classic PvP gear: from Marshal to Grand Marshal

Honor rank system
WoW Classic 1.12.1 has 14 honor ranks per faction. Rank is assigned weekly from the honor you earned that week relative to other players of your faction — it is a competitive ladder.

Reaching Grand Marshal / High Warlord (rank 14) is extremely hard: you must hold the top of the honor ladder every week for several months, beating the competition on your server. Skip a week and your rank drops from decay (about 20% of rank points).
The epic class set (6 pieces)
Every class has an epic rank set of 6 pieces earned from two ranks:
- Rank 12 (Marshal / General) — legs, hands (gloves), feet;
- Rank 13 (Field Marshal / Warlord) — chest, head, shoulders.
Belt, bracers and weapons are not part of the itemset — weapons are bought separately at rank 14. Set bonuses count across all 6 pieces:
- (2) pieces: +20 Stamina;
- (3–4) pieces: a class ability cooldown reduction (or buff) — unique per class;
- (6) pieces: a combat bonus (+40 Attack Power, +20 Agility or +23 spell damage and healing, depending on class).
The middle bonus threshold is 3 or 4 pieces depending on the core — 1.12.1 sources disagree. On x5, trust the in-game item tooltip.

Where to buy
Armor and weapons are handed out by the PvP quartermaster once you hold the required rank: Alliance — Sergeant Major Clate in Champion's Hall, Stormwind; Horde — First Sergeant Hola'mahi in the Hall of Legends, Orgrimmar. The currency is the earned honor rank itself, not battleground marks.

The rank 14 epic weapons are some of the best items in the game before Naxxramas and often BiS for PvE, so even raiders buy them.
Blue PvP sets (ranks 7–10)
Before the epic set you collect a blue (rare) 6-piece set from ranks 7–10: boots and gloves at rank 7 (Knight-Lieutenant's / Blood Guard's), chest and legs at rank 8 (Knight-Captain's / Legionnaire's), helm and shoulders at rank 10 (Lieutenant Commander's / Champion's). A good stepping stone while you grind rank toward the epics.

Grand Marshal or Tier 2 — which is better?
It depends on class and role. For PvP the rank set and weapons are almost always preferable. For PvE raids Tier 1 and Tier 2 are usually better on combat stats, but the rank 14 PvP weapons stay BiS for many classes until Naxxramas.
How long does rank 14 take in WoW Classic?
With active honor farming in battlegrounds — 3 to 6 months. It depends on server competition and hours played per week. On WoW x5 the competition is real.
