Warlock Dreadsteed Quest: Epic Mount Through a Ritual
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruThe warlock in WoW Classic is one of two classes (alongside the paladin) with a class-specific epic mount quest. Instead of the standard 1000-gold purchase, warlocks can earn their Dreadsteed of Xoroth through a quest chain for roughly 150–400 gold — culminating in a unique ritual inside Dire Maul.
What Is the Dreadsteed?
The Dreadsteed of Xoroth is a demonic steed summoned through a dark ritual. It appears as a fiery horse from another dimension. The only way to obtain it is completing the quest chain. After completing the ritual, warlocks learn the Summon Dreadsteed spell — a permanent, consumable-free mount.
Advantage: unlike a purchased mount item, Dreadsteed is a spell always in your spellbook. No inventory slot needed.
Quest Chain: Steps
Step 1: Mestoph's Letter
The quest starts with a letter from Mestoph (a demonologist), appearing in the warlock's mailbox at level 60. Mestoph directs you to Lord Horgrak in Ironforge or Orgrimmar.
Step 2: Gathering Rare Components
Lord Horgrak explains the ritual and requires three special components:
| Component | Purpose | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Black Lodestone | Ritual core | Farm Dire Maul West |
| Wheel of the Black March | Portal hub | Farm Dire Maul North |
| Dreadsteed Collar | Mount bridle | Farm Dire Maul East |
Each component drops in the corresponding wing of Dire Maul or can be bought on the auction house.
x5 Tip: On WowX5 auction prices depend on server economy. Check whether farming or buying is cheaper.
Step 3: Gathering Ritual Consumables
Beyond the key components, consumables are needed for the ritual itself:
| Material | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Iron Ore | 25 | BRD farming / AH |
| Elemental Fire | 25 | Fire elemental farming / AH |
| Essence of Fire | 6 | MC or AH |
Consumables are purchased from a craftsman NPC inside Dire Maul — total cost approximately 150–300 gold.
Step 4: The Ritual in Dire Maul
The final stage: a ritual in Dire Maul West (a special room with an altar). A 5-member group activates the ritual, ideally with a warlock leading.
Ritual Mechanics: 1. Activate the altar with all three components. 2. A 3-minute event begins: waves of demons attack the group. 3. After the waves, Lord Horgrak appears — kill him. 4. Ritual complete — the warlock learns Summon Dreadsteed.
During the ritual no one can leave the room or die. Make sure the group is ready for continuous waves.
Alternative: Buy All Components
If you don't want to farm — all three key components and consumables can be purchased from other players or the auction house. This speeds up the quest but increases the cost to 350–500 gold.
