Taming the Beast: How a Hunter Gets a Pet in Vanilla
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruBefore level 10 a WoW Classic hunter plays without a pet — noticeably weaker. Exactly at level 10 the trainer opens the Taming the Beast chain, after which you gain the class's signature feature: a permanent animal companion. On WoW x5 you reach that threshold in just a few hours.
How to start
1. Reach level 10 as a hunter (any race except human and gnome, who have no hunter in Vanilla). 2. Visit the hunter trainer in your racial capital. They give the first Taming the Beast quest. 3. A quest to tame a specific beast nearby appears in your log.
The three taming quests
The chain is three similar quests: you get a temporary Tame Beast skill and a target beast. Taming it for a few minutes completes the step, then the pet is released.
| Step | Task |
|---|---|
| 1 | Tame the first listed beast |
| 2 | Tame the second beast |
| 3 | Tame the third and return to the trainer |
Tame only the exact listed beast type and level. Losing the pet after the quest is normal.
What you get
At the trainer you learn the full pet toolkit: Tame Beast, Call/Dismiss Pet, Revive/Feed Pet and Beast Training.
Which pet first
Pick for easy leveling: cats deal the best damage, boars are tanky and eat anything. See best hunter pets, tank pets and pet abilities.
Then level up with the hunter leveling guide and talent builds. Ready? Register on WoW x5.
