Leveling 1–60
The Mage levels fast and excels at AoE grinding (Frost): gather packs and destroy them with Blizzard/Frost Nova. Conjure your own food and water for endless regen.
Raids and PvE
In raids the Mage is a top ranged DPS (Fire) and utility: food tables, Intellect buffs, Spellsteal-like dispels and Polymorph on adds. Build BiS with spell power and hit.
PvP and battlegrounds
Polymorph, Blink, Ice Block and control make the Mage dangerous and survivable for a caster; the main threat is fast melee in your face.
Professions
Herbalism + Alchemy for mana potions, or Tailoring + Enchanting for cloth armor and reagents.
