The Swamp of Sorrows is a boggy mire in the south-east of the Eastern Kingdoms, tuned for 35–45. Misty lakes, the Horde fortress of Stonard, green Sorrowmurk dragons and Misty Reed murlocs. In the centre, out in the lake, rises the flooded Sunken Temple (Temple of Atal'Hakkar) — a 50–60 dungeon.

Level range and how to get there

The recommended range is level 35–45. The Horde holds the fortress of Stonard in the west. The Alliance has no town — you arrive from the Blasted Lands to the east, or via Redridge Mountains and Duskwood. The east borders the Blasted Lands and the Dark Portal.

Key spots: Stonard — a Horde base with swamp quests; Misty Reed Strand in the south — murlocs; the Sorrowmurk dragons in the east; and the Pool of Tears in the centre, around the flooded Sunken Temple. Grab Stonard quests and clear the lake shores.

Elites

Elite green Sorrowmurk dragons and naga roam around the Sunken Temple and the eastern mires — dangerous solo, so bring a group. Some Stonard quests lead to elite swamp targets and to the Sunken Temple access chain.

Nearby dungeons

In the centre of the Swamp of Sorrows, out in the lake, lies the entrance to the Sunken Temple (Temple of Atal'Hakkar, 50–60), the dungeon of the Atal'ai cult and the dragon Eranikus. It's the zone's main 'neighbour', albeit a level higher: hit 45 in the swamp, then return to the Sunken Temple at 50+. Several raid access chains begin here.

Tips for the x5 server

On x5 the 35–45 range is short — stick to Stonard quests and clear the lake shores.
The Sunken Temple is right here, but it's 50–60 — pick up its quests now and run the instance later.
Misty Reed murlocs give cloth and XP — bring nature resistance against the dragons.
The swamp is rich in herbs (kingsblood, goldthorn) — level herbalism along the way.
Beware the Sorrowmurk dragons and naga patrols by the Pool of Tears.

Where to go next

By 45 move to the Blasted Lands (45–55) east toward the Dark Portal, or to the Searing Gorge and Burning Steppes. At 50+ return to the Sunken Temple for XP and quests.
