The Blasted Lands are a red desert in the south of the Eastern Kingdoms, a 45–55 zone at the Dark Portal. The portal's magic scorched the land: basilisks, boars, scorpoks, Dreadmaul ogres and the Tainted Scar, where Lord Kazzak's demons rule. Nethergarde Keep stands in the northeast, by the only road.

Level range and how to get there

The recommended range is level 45–55. The only base is Nethergarde Keep in the northeast, an Alliance fortress with a flight path. The Horde has no base in the zone: Horde players use Stonard in the Swamp of Sorrows for quests and flights and walk in. There is a single entrance, the pass from the Swamp of Sorrows in the north. Key points: Nethergarde Keep — Alliance zone quests; the blood mages at the northern entrance — repeatable +25 potion quests (ingredients drop from local beasts), open to both factions; Kum'isha the Collector near the Rise of the Defiler — trades draenethyst fragments and spheres that drop from any mob. Dreadmaul Hold in the northwest is not a base but a camp of hostile ogres.

The Tainted Scar in the west is full of elite demons from Lord Kazzak's army; do not go in solo. Dreadmaul ogres are not elite, but the ogre magi in the hold cast hard-hitting spells and pull in groups. The zone's main endgame target is the world raid boss Lord Kazzak, commander of the demons in the Tainted Scar.

There are no classic dungeons in the Blasted Lands. The Dark Portal is inactive in Vanilla and cannot be entered. The zone's main endgame target is the world raid boss Lord Kazzak (40 players) in the Tainted Scar. The nearest instances are the Sunken Temple in the Swamp of Sorrows and the dungeons of neighbouring zones.

Tips for the x5 server

On x5 the 45–55 range is quick — stick to keep quests and potions, and enter the Scar with a group.
Dreadmaul ogres drop Mageweave and Runecloth — money on x5.
Collect Basilisk Brains, Vulture Gizzards, Blasted Boar Lungs, Scorpok Pincers and Snickerfang Jowls: they are brewed into +25 potions.
Don't approach Lord Kazzak solo: he is a 40-player world raid boss.
Professions: Firebloom, Sungrass and Gromsblood grow here, with mithril, truesilver and small thorium veins; scorpids give scales.

Where to go next
