The Barrens is ideal for 10–25: a central hub with quests in every direction, two dungeons next door and an open world for PvP. The Horde fights plainstriders, zhevra, Kolkar centaurs and Razormane quilboar here, and along the way runs Wailing Caverns and Razorfen Kraul.
Level range and how to get there
The recommended range is level 10–25. Roads lead into the Barrens from every side: north from Durotar (Orgrimmar), west from Mulgore (Thunder Bluff), south from Thousand Needles. The centre of it all is the Crossroads. On x5 grab the hub quests in a batch.
Quest hubs and chains
The key hub is the Crossroads in the centre (flight path, bank, inn, dozens of quests in all directions). Also: the port of Ratchet in the east (neutral, goblins, ferry to Booty Bay) and Camp Taurajo in the south. Crossroads quests cover almost the whole zone.

Elites
Notable elites are the Razormane quilboar leaders (Overlord Ramtusk, Charlga's priests) and crushing lions; take them with a group of two or three for quests. The Wailing Caverns entrance is inside the Wailing Crater in the centre of the zone.

The Barrens has two dungeons: Wailing Caverns in the centre (15–25) and Razorfen Kraul in the south (25–35). Both pair perfectly with leveling in the zone.
Tips for the x5 server
- On x5 the 10–25 range takes a few evenings — the Crossroads gives quests in every direction.
- Ratchet is a neutral port: goblin auction house, ferry to Booty Bay and eastern quests.
- Razormane quilboar are the best money and cloth spot around level 16–20.
- At 15–18 group for Wailing Caverns, at 25 for Razorfen Kraul: both beat open-world grinding.
- Professions: herbalists find Bruiseweed and Earthroot, miners find tin and silver.
