PvE in WoW Classic is about 40 players working together against the toughest bosses in the vanilla world. On WowX5 with x5 rates, you reach raid-ready status faster and join your guild's progression sooner.

Vanilla Raid Progression

Entry Raids

Molten Core (MC) — 40 players, 10 bosses. The first raid for most guilds. Drops Tier 1 set.
Zul'Gurub (ZG) — 20 players, available from patch 1.7. Great starter gear.
Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) — 20 players, exotic gear.

Advanced Raids

Blackwing Lair (BWL) — 40 players, 8 bosses. Nefarian, drops Tier 2.
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ40) — 40 players, C'Thun. One of the hardest vanilla raids.
Naxxramas (Naxx) — 40 players, 15 bosses, Kel'Thuzad. Final vanilla raid, drops Tier 3.

PvE Roles

Tank

Holds bosses, manages threat. Best classes: Warrior (main tank), Druid (off-tank). Requires high Defense rating and HP.

Healer

Keeps the raid alive. Key classes: Priest (main healing), Paladin (Alliance, single-target heals), Shaman (Horde, Chain Heal).

DPS

Deals damage. Three types:

Melee DPS: Rogue, DPS Warrior, Druid (cat form).
Ranged Physical: Hunter.
Caster DPS: Mage, Warlock, Balance Druid, Elemental Shaman.

Raid Preparation

Pre-raid BiS — a gear set from dungeons before your first raid. Priority: 1. Farm Stratholme/Scholomance for best-in-slot pieces. 2. Sets from UBRS/LBRS. 3. Crafted items through professions.

Always bring: health potions, mana potions (casters/healers), bandages, and food buffs.

How many players are needed for WoW Classic raids?

Most Vanilla raids (MC, BWL, AQ40, Naxx) require 40 players. There are also 20-player raids: Zul'Gurub (ZG) and Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20).

How do I get into my first raid?

Reach level 60, assemble a pre-raid BiS set from dungeons, and join an active guild. Molten Core is the first raid for most players.

Is Fire Resistance needed for raids?

For some MC and AQ40 bosses — yes. Fire Resistance for Molten Core and Nature Resistance for AQ40 significantly ease those raids.
