Paladin Blessings: Who Gets Which Blessing in a Raid

Section: Classes & races 4 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 03.10.2026

Paladin blessings are the strongest Alliance buffs in Vanilla 1.12.1: Kings, Might, Wisdom and Salvation noticeably increase the damage, healing and survivability of the whole raid. On the WoW x5 server a paladin with well-assigned blessings is valuable in any raid, and this guide covers everything you need to know about the class buffs.

General blessing rules

  • One blessing per paladin. A player can have only one blessing from each paladin. To get Kings, Might and Salvation at once, you need three paladins.
  • Identical blessings do not stack. Two Blessings of Might from different paladins do not add up.
  • Regular blessings last 5 minutes. A regular blessing is cast on one target for 5 minutes.
  • Greater blessings last 15 minutes per class. A Greater Blessing affects every player of the same class as the target in the party or raid. It requires the Symbol of Kings reagent and was added in patch 1.9.

Class basics are covered in the paladin guide, and the full spell list is on the paladin abilities page.

5-minute and 15-minute buffs

Might, Wisdom, Kings, Salvation, Light and Sanctuary are long buffs, and each has a greater version. Greater Blessing of Might is available from level 52, Greater Blessing of Wisdom from level 54, and the rest at level 60. Greater Blessings of Kings and Sanctuary require the matching Protection talents.

Situational blessings

Blessing of Protection saves a healer or mage pulled by a mob, but the target cannot attack physically while it lasts. Blessing of Freedom removes slows and roots, which is very valuable in PvP - see the paladin PvP guide. Blessing of Sacrifice moves part of the damage from the target to the paladin.

Talents that improve blessings

  • Blessing of Kings - a Protection talent; without it a paladin cannot give Kings.
  • Blessing of Sanctuary - a deep Protection talent used by tanking paladins.
  • Improved Blessing of Might - Retribution, up to +20% effect.
  • Improved Blessing of Wisdom - Holy, up to +20% effect.

How to fit these talents into a build is covered in paladin talent builds and the holy paladin build.

Raid blessing assignments by class

Buff assignments
Buff assignmentsA raid scheme

Each paladin in the raid handles one blessing type, and priorities depend on class:

ClassBlessing priority
DPS warriors and roguesSalvation, Kings, Might, Light
TanksKings, Might, Sanctuary, Light - no Salvation
HuntersSalvation, Kings, Wisdom, Light
Mages and warlocksSalvation, Kings, Wisdom, Light
Priests, druids and paladinsWisdom, Kings, Salvation, Light
Совет

Do NOT give Blessing of Salvation to tanks: it reduces threat by 30%, and the tank loses aggro. If Greater Salvation is cast on all warriors, the tank's buff is then manually replaced with another blessing. Blessing of Might is useless for hunters - it only increases melee attack power.

With four or more paladins Light is added, increasing the effect of paladin heals. Regular 5-minute blessings are enough in dungeons, while greater blessings are better in raids: one cast for 15 minutes instead of rebuffing every player.

The PallyPower addon

Coordinating buffs by hand in a 40-player raid is tedious, so paladins use the PallyPower addon: it shows which paladin hands out which blessing, which classes are missing a buff and how much time is left. Installation and setup are described in the PallyPower guide.

FAQ

How long does a paladin blessing last?

A regular blessing lasts 5 minutes on a single target. A Greater Blessing lasts 15 minutes on every player of the chosen class in the party or raid.

What does a Greater Blessing require?

The Symbol of Kings reagent, sold by reagent vendors. Each Greater Blessing consumes one symbol.

Why should tanks not get Blessing of Salvation?

Salvation reduces threat generated by 30%, and a tank needs threat to hold the boss. Tanks get Kings, Might, Sanctuary or Light instead.

Can I have two identical blessings?

No. Each paladin can keep only one blessing on a player, and identical blessings from different paladins do not stack. That is why each paladin in a raid handles one blessing type.
