Booty Bay and Steamwheedle Cartel: Reputation Guide
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruBooty Bay is a goblin port city at the southern tip of Stranglethorn Vale, the home of the Blackwater Raiders cartel — one of four factions under the Steamwheedle Cartel umbrella. Reputation with Booty Bay affects all four cartel cities simultaneously: Gadgetzan (Tanaris), Ratchet (The Barrens), and Everlook (Winterspring). This interconnection matters most for PvP players: killing players inside neutral goblin towns lowers your standing with local guards.
Why Reputation Matters
Main reasons to maintain or raise Steamwheedle Cartel reputation:
- Neutral Auction Houses in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, and Everlook — the only places Alliance and Horde can trade directly.
- Recipe vendors — exclusive cooking, fishing, engineering, and other profession recipes.
- Free movement through neutral goblin towns without guard aggression.
- Goblin engineering schematics require Friendly standing with cartel NPCs.
The Four Steamwheedle Cartels
| Cartel | City | Zone |
|---|---|---|
| Blackwater Raiders | Booty Bay | Stranglethorn Vale |
| Bilgewater | Gadgetzan | Tanaris |
| Ratchet | Ratchet | The Barrens |
| Everlook | Everlook | Winterspring |
All four cartels share reputation — raising one raises them all simultaneously.
How to Raise Reputation
| Source | Reputation |
|---|---|
| Quests in Booty Bay / Ratchet / Gadgetzan | +rep per quest |
| Killing Southsea Pirates (STV, Tanaris) | grind |
| Killing Wastewander bandits (Tanaris) | grind |
| Killing Bloodsail Buccaneers (STV coast) | grind |
The fastest method is pirate farming: Southsea Pirates in Stranglethorn Vale and Tanaris are enemies of the cartel and give reliable reputation per kill.
Restoring Reputation After PvP
If you killed someone inside a neutral town and guards turned hostile, you can fix it:
1. Farm pirates hostile to the cartel (Southsea Freebooters, Wastewander bandits). 2. Turn in pirate-related quests in Booty Bay or Gadgetzan. 3. Reputation returns to Neutral, then Friendly — guards stop attacking again.
The Neutral Auction House
The neutral AH in Booty Bay (and other cartel cities) is the only place Alliance and Horde can trade:
- Sell faction-exclusive recipes to players of the opposite faction.
- Buy BiS items available only on the other faction's AH.
- Price arbitrage: identical goods often have different prices on Alliance vs Horde AH.
Note that neutral AH commission is higher (15% vs 5% on faction AH).
Tips for x5
On x5, the neutral AH is especially active due to the mixed player base. Keep your Steamwheedle rep at least at Neutral to avoid guard aggression. Goblin engineers must be at Friendly to learn certain schematics — plan ahead.
Faction Lore
The Steamwheedle Cartel is Azeroth's largest goblin trade conglomerate, built on the principle of "neutral trade for all." Booty Bay was established on the ruins of a pirate fort and transformed into a thriving port — a classic example of goblins turning dangerous locations into profitable ventures. Baron Revilgaz rules the city with an iron fist wrapped in silk.
Action Steps
1. Pick up all available quests in Booty Bay (level 30+), Ratchet, and Gadgetzan. 2. Farm Southsea Pirates along the STV coast — they're enemies of the cartel. 3. Complete repeatable pirate-loot quests if available. 4. At Friendly, unlock the neutral AH and recipe vendors.
