Game crashes on the loading screen: fix stuck loads and crashes
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruThe classic symptom: the loading bar freezes halfway or reaches the end, then the client silently closes or hangs. In Vanilla 1.12.1 this is almost always a local client issue, not the server.
Step 1: delete the cache
Close the game and delete the Cache folder in the WoW directory. It rebuilds on next launch. A corrupt cache is the #1 cause of loading-screen freezes.
Step 2: disable add-ons
Rename the Interface and WTF folders (e.g. Interface_old, WTF_old). If the world loads with clean settings, an add-on is to blame. Restore WTF and re-enable add-ons one by one until you find the culprit. Heavy add-ons (maps, databases) hang loads most often.
Step 3: check the realmlist
A wrong or unreachable address in realmlist.wtf makes the client load the world forever. Make sure it reads set realmlist play.wowx5.ru — see the realmlist guide.
Step 4: permissions and antivirus
- Run
Wow.exeas administrator. - Install the game outside
Program Files— Windows restricts writes there and the client can't update its cache. - Temporarily disable antivirus: it may block MPQ reads during loading.
Step 5: file integrity
A damaged data archive (.MPQ) breaks loading of a specific zone. Re-download the client from the download page and extract it into a clean folder, moving only your WTF over if needed.
FAQ
Why does WoW crash entering the world but the menu works?
The menu doesn't load zone data, but entering the world does. A stuck loading bar usually means corrupt cache, an add-on conflict or a damaged client file. Start by deleting the Cache folder.
The bar reaches the end and the client closes — what now?
That's usually corrupt model or texture data. Delete the Cache and WTF folders, disable add-ons and verify client file integrity. If it helps, re-enable add-ons one at a time.
Does reinstalling the client help?
As a last resort, yes, but first try deleting Cache and re-extracting only the damaged MPQ. A full reinstall takes time; clearing cache and add-ons fixes 90% of cases.
