WoW Classic classes: which to pick
Overview of all nine WoW Classic (Vanilla 1.12.1) classes: PvE and PvP roles, leveling difficulty and who each class suits on the x5 realm.
Tanks, healers and damage
Vanilla roles are strict: the tank is almost always a Warrior, healing comes from Priest/Druid/Paladin/Shaman, and damage from mages, rogues, hunters and warlocks. Hybrids are valued for buffs and flexibility, but pure classes dominate their role.
Alliance classes
- Warrior — best tank and top DPS in BiS gear; hard early, king of raids.
- Paladin — reliable healer and buffer, tanky in PvP thanks to Bubble.
- Mage — top AoE, portals and food/water; a farming machine.
- Rogue — duel king and lockpicker, high burst.
- Priest — strongest healer and a solid Shadow spec for solo.
- Hunter — easiest solo leveler, steady DPS.
- Druid — all-rounder: tank/healer/DPS, great in PvP forms.
- Warlock — pets, DoT damage and survivability; strong in PvE and PvP.
Horde classes
- The Horde has no Paladin but gains the Shaman — a hybrid healer with totems and huge burst (Windfury).
- Other classes work the same as on Alliance (Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Priest, Hunter, Tauren Druid, Warlock).
What to pick as a beginner
For a fast, relaxed start pick Hunter or Druid. Love dungeons and raids — Warrior. Enjoy PvP and duels — Rogue or Warlock. Want to always be needed — a healer (Priest/Druid).
