Beast Mastery Hunter — build, talents and leveling with a pet
The Beast Mastery hunter is the pet spec: a buffed, durable beast soaks the damage and aggro while the hunter calmly shoots from behind. It is the best choice for solo leveling, farming and confident single-player. For raid DPS hunters more often go Marksmanship, but for comfort and survivability on the 1-60 road BM has no rival.
The strength of BM is the pet tank. Level Beast Taming and keep Mend Pet ready: the beast holds the mob while you shoot from a comfortable range, taking almost no damage.

What this build is for
BM is the king of solo play:
- Leveling — the pet holds aggro, the hunter shoots; minimal downtime and deaths.
- Farming and solo — you can pull elites and tough packs thanks to a durable beast.
- PvP — strong pet pressure and control, traps and kiting.
For raids the Marksmanship spec is more effective for Trueshot Aura and Aimed Shot, but on the road to 60 BM is easier and safer.

Unleashed Fury and Frenzy make the pet a real tank, while the Marksmanship dip raises the hunter's own damage.
Rotation and play
Send the pet in, keep Aspect of the Hawk, shoot Auto Shot weaving Arcane Shot and Multi-Shot. Don't let the enemy into melee — keep range, set a Freezing Trap on approach.
Watch the pet's focus and heal it in time. Shot priority is in the hunter rotation, buttons in hunter macros, and control combos in the hunter PvP guide.
Stats and gear
Priority: attack power/agility → hit to the cap → crit → stamina. Agility gives both damage and crit; hit removes misses on the target.
