Warrior — the only true raid tank
The Protection warrior is the foundation of every raid from Molten Core to Naxxramas. Sunder Armor and Shield Slam give the best threat control, stances (Defensive/Berserker) and Taunt manage the fight, and a shield with high Defense provides survivability. No other Vanilla class replaces the warrior as main tank.
Druid — a strong off-tank
The bear druid has a huge HP and armor pool, can't be stunned in Bear Form with the talent, and is useful where a beefy off-tank is needed: Broodlord, certain Naxx bosses, extra dungeon tanks. Downside — weaker threat control and no shield.
Paladin — dungeon and pack tank
The paladin holds multiple targets well via Consecration and Righteous Fury and is great in 5-mans, especially on AoE pulls. But it trails the warrior in single-target threat and raid survivability and is not the main raid tank in vanilla.
