Alliance

On Alliance the best mage is the Gnome: Expansive Mind (+5% max mana — more casts per pool) and Escape Artist (root removal — king of kiting), plus Arcane Resistance. Humans bring The Human Spirit and Perception.

Horde

On Horde the choice is between Undead and Troll. Undead: Will of the Forsaken (against fear/sleep/polymorph chains) — top for PvP and handy in PvE. Troll: Berserking (cast haste at low HP) gives a small DPS bump and helps in scrums.
