Druid and Priest are the two pillars of healing in WoW Classic 1.12.1, but they approach the role differently. The priest is the benchmark for pure healing and support; the druid is a Swiss army knife that heals, tanks, hits and is the only class that can resurrect in combat. Class breakdown

Druid — the jack of all trades. A resto druid heals with rolling HoTs (Rejuvenation, Regrowth), gives the raid Innervate for mana and - uniquely - Rebirth, the only in-combat resurrection in the game. In feral form the druid becomes a sturdy off-tank (Bear) or DPS (Cat), and instantly shedding roots by shifting forms makes it strong in PvP. The downside: the druid lacks the priest's peak healing and spreads itself across roles.

Priest — the king of pure healing and support. The priest has the best direct heal in the game, an instant Power Word: Shield, magic dispel, and dwarves get Fear Ward, critical on many bosses. In the Shadow spec the priest becomes a dangerous PvP and solo caster with Mind Blast, Fear and silence effects. The downside: outside healing/shadow the priest is fragile and barely melees.

Verdict: which to pick

Pick the priest if you want the best direct healing, shields, magic dispel and a Shadow option for PvP and solo. Pick the druid if you value versatility: battle resurrection, Innervate, an off-tank and DPS forms plus PvP survivability. The priest is a specialist healer; the druid is a flexible hybrid that always finds a spot in the group.

On x5 the druid levels faster - animal forms give DPS, mobility and healing with no downtime.
A new priest slots into raids easily: pure healing is always in demand.
Keep both druid specs ready: resto for raids, feral for solo and roaming.
A dwarf priest takes Fear Ward - it is a key buff on bosses.
Both classes are scarce as healers - fast group invites on the server are guaranteed.
