# Druid or Shaman: Which to Choose in WoW Classic

Druid and shaman are the most versatile hybrids in WoW Classic 1.12.1. On Horde the choice between them comes up constantly (druid is on both factions, shaman is Horde-only). Both can heal, deal damage and support the group, but differently: the druid is a jack-of-all-trades with forms, resurrection and Innervate, the shaman is about totems and group Chain Heal. Let's break down the choice on the WoW Classic X5 server.

Class breakdown

The druid is the ultimate all-rounder. Bear can off-tank (not the main tank, but takes trash and add duty), cat gives decent melee DPS, and Resto heals with HoTs (Rejuvenation, Regrowth) and holds the tank. Unique are battle resurrection (Rebirth) and Innervate (restores an ally's mana) — no one else has them. Plus forms for mobility (Travel/Aquatic) and control (Entangling Roots). The druid is on both factions. The downside: 'jack of all trades, master of none' — he trails pure classes at the peak of each role.

The shaman (Horde only) is a hybrid with the strongest buffs. His totems are game-changing: Windfury sharply raises melee damage, Mana Spring feeds casters mana, Tremor removes fear. In healing the shaman is the king of group Chain Heal. Elemental deals powerful ranged burst, Enhancement is strong at soloing and PvP. Nature's Swiftness provides an instant heal or Lightning Bolt. Downsides: the shaman cannot tank, has no resurrection or Innervate, and his single-target healing is weaker.

Verdict: which to pick

Pick the druid if you want maximum flexibility (off-tank, heal, DPS, battle rez, Innervate) and play either faction. Pick the shaman if you value totem buffs (especially Windfury), group Chain Heal and powerful Elemental burst — but only on Horde and without the ability to tank. Both are valuable to a Horde raid: the druid adds a rez and Innervate, the shaman Windfury and Chain Heal.

Tips on the x5 server

  • The shaman's Windfury Totem buffs the whole melee group — one of Horde's top buffs.
  • The druid's battle rez and Innervate save the raid in tough fights — unique utility.
  • Both level and farm great solo; choose by the raid role you want.
  • A healing druid needs mp5/Spirit; a shaman benefits from mail and mp5.
  • There is no shaman on Alliance — compare the druid with the priest or paladin (see related).

In short

Pick the druid if you want maximum flexibility (off-tank, heal, DPS, battle rez, Innervate) and play either faction. Pick the shaman if you value totem buffs (especially Windfury), group Chain Heal and powerful Elemental burst — but only on Horde and without the ability to tank. Both are valuable to a Horde raid: the druid adds a rez and Innervate, the shaman Windfury and Chain Heal.

FAQ

Who is more useful to a raid — druid or shaman?

Both are valuable and do not replace each other. The druid brings battle resurrection and Innervate, the shaman Windfury Totem and Chain Heal. A Horde raid takes both.

Can a druid or shaman tank a raid?

A bear druid can off-tank trash and adds, but the main raid tank is the warrior. The shaman cannot tank at all.

Which is easier to level?

Both level great solo: the druid as a cat with self-healing, the shaman as Enhancement/Elemental. The difference is minimal — choose by faction and desired raid role.
