Fire Mage — build, talents and rotation

The fire mage is the peak of single-target mage damage in WoW Classic. Ignite and Combustion push it to the top of raid DPS, while stacking the Improved Scorch debuff boosts the whole fire group. For control and survival mages take frost, but the raw damage in Molten Core and Blackwing Lair comes from fire.
Before the pull, stack 5 Improved Scorch charges — it raises fire damage from every mage on the target. Then spam Fireball and ride the Ignite window: a critical Fireball on top of Ignite gives a huge damage spike.
What this build is for
Fire is the mage raid DPS spec:
- Raids — the best single-target mage damage on bosses without fire immunity.
- Group synergy — Improved Scorch applies fire vulnerability, boosting every fire mage.
- Dungeons — fast clears, though frost AoE is better for big packs.
Note: against fire-immune bosses (Ragnaros, fire elementals in Molten Core) fire is useless — keep a frost set or switch to a frost rotation for those fights.

Arcane Power gives a burst window, and Critical Mass with Ignite are the whole foundation of fire damage.
Rotation and play
Open with Scorch ×5 for the vulnerability debuff, then Fireball on the stand. Use Combustion and Arcane Power on burst phases. Watch your range — pushback cuts damage.
Mana is the bottleneck: keep mana gems, runes and potions, and don't waste Arcane Power. Cast details and templates are in the mage rotation guide and mage macros.
Stats and gear
Priority: spell power → hit to the cap → crit → intellect. Crit is critical because of Ignite — every crit adds fuel to the shared fire.
