The Annals of Darrowshire: Chromie's Chain and the Battle of Darrowshire

The Annals of Darrowshire is the core of one of the most atmospheric lore chains in WoW Classic. It is given by Chromie, a gnome historian in the Ruins of Andorhal who is secretly a bronze dragon. The chain tells the story of the Battle of Darrowshire, where Captain Joseph Redpath's militia died holding back the Scourge and the captain himself was corrupted.

How to reach Chromie

The story starts with the Redpath family. Little Pamela's ghost wanders the ruins of Darrowshire in the Eastern Plaguelands: she asks you to rebuild her doll and talks about her aunt Marlene and uncle Carlin. Marlene Redpath's ghost stands on Sorrow Hill in the Western Plaguelands, next to Uther's Tomb. Marlene sends you to a "strange historian" — Chromie in Andorhal.

Step 1. The book in the Andorhal town hall

Chromie waits in the ruined inn of Andorhal. She asks for the Annals of Darrowshire, which lie in the town hall among piles of identical books. The real one spawns at a random spot: look for pages of uniform colour and a faint X on the spine. The hall is surrounded by level 55–58 Scourge, so bring a friend.

Step 2. Brother Carlin

Chromie then hands you the Extended Annals of Darrowshire. Take them to Brother Carlin at Light's Hope Chapel, the Argent Dawn stronghold in the east of the Eastern Plaguelands.

Step 3. Heroes, villains and marauders

Brother Carlin gives three level 57–60 quests that can be done in any order.

  • Villains of Darrowshire — recover the Skull of Horgus and the Shattered Sword of Marduk.
  • Heroes of Darrowshire — find Davil's Libram in Hearthglen and Redpath's Shield at Gahrron's Withering.
  • Marauders of Darrowshire — collect five Scourge commanders' skulls with an identification crystal.

With all relics in hand, return to Chromie in Andorhal.

Step 4. The Battle of Darrowshire

Chromie sends you to Darrowshire with a relic bundle. Place it in the centre of the village and the battle replays. Protect Davil Lightfire until Horgus falls, keep Captain Joseph Redpath alive until the corruption takes him, then defeat Redpath the Corrupted. Afterwards Pamela's ghost gives the last quest, Hidden Treasures: open the chest behind her house.

Combine the chain with Argent Dawn reputation farming. If you already have the Skeleton Key, visit Scholomance on Caer Darrow too — it is right next to Sorrow Hill.

  1. Find Pamela's ghost in Darrowshire and rebuild her doll.

  6. Return to Chromie and win the Battle of Darrowshire.
  7. Open the Hidden Treasures chest behind Pamela's house.

The chain gives roughly 62,000 experience and 1750 Argent Dawn reputation, but its real value is the story: one of Vanilla's strongest tales about the cost of the war against the Scourge. On x5 rates the experience comes fast, so you can finish it before level 60. Create a character on WoW Classic X5 and live this story yourself.
