The road is long: two rare bindings from Molten Core, rare metal from Blackwing Lair, and a final fight in Silithus. On WoW x5 leveling to 60 and entering raids is fast, but assembling Thunderfury is still a marathon.
Step 1. Collect both Bindings of the Windseeker
The quest begins with two bindings that drop only in Molten Core:
- Left Binding of the Windseeker — from Garr;
- Right Binding of the Windseeker — from Baron Geddon.
The drop is rare and not guaranteed, so many farm Molten Core for weeks. Both bindings are bind-on-pickup. Once you have both, bring them to Highlord Demitrian in Silithus.
Step 2. Gather Elementium and Essence of the Firelord
Demitrian asks you to forge the bindings into a single blade. You need:

Smelting Elementium is a chore of its own: the ore is mined from veins in BWL under adds, and the recipe is unlocked via Thorium Brotherhood reputation.
Step 3. Defeat Prince Thunderaan
With everything gathered you receive a dormant blade and summon Prince Thunderaan in Silithus. He is a powerful air elemental — bring a small group (5–10 raid-geared players). When he falls the dormant blade becomes Thunderfury.
Tips for x5
- Farm the bindings alongside your normal Molten Core progression — no empty filler runs.
- Agree on loot priority for the Bindings with your guild in advance.
- The chain-lightning proc makes Thunderfury the benchmark tank weapon for multi-target threat — see the threat guide.
Common mistakes
- Selling a binding by accident. The Bindings of the Windseeker look unremarkable — don't disenchant or vendor them.
- Forgetting the Essence of the Firelord. Many hoard bindings and Elementium but miss that a Ragnaros drop is also required.
- Pulling Thunderaan solo. Prince Thunderaan is not a solo target; bring a raid-level group.
