Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme: How to Unlock 300 Fishing in Classic
Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme is the WoW Vanilla 1.12.1 quest that unlocks Artisan Fishing and raises the skill cap from 225 to 300. Below is a step-by-step walkthrough tuned for the WoW x5 server, where your character reaches the right zones faster.

What the Quest Gives
Fishing ranks in 1.12.1 come from different places: Apprentice and Journeyman from a city trainer, Expert (up to 225) from a book sold by Old Man Heming in Booty Bay, and Artisan (up to 300) only from this quest. The reward is Artisan Fishing training — no fishing pole. The full leveling path is in the fishing guide 1–300.
Step 1. Reach 225 Skill and Find Nat
The quest needs level 35 and 225 Fishing. Nat Pagle lives at his fishing camp in Dustwallow Marsh — routes for both factions are in how to get to Dustwallow Marsh. The quest is shared by Alliance and Horde.
◆Step 2. Catch Four Rare Fish
Nat asks for four fish that only bite in specific waters while you hold the quest:
| Fish | Where | Zone |
|---|---|---|
| Feralas Ahi | Verdantis River | Feralas |
| Sar'theris Striker | Sar'theris Strand | Desolace |
| Misty Reed Mahi Mahi | Misty Reed Strand | Swamp of Sorrows |
| Savage Coast Blue Sailfin | Savage Coast | Stranglethorn Vale |
Any order works. A convenient route: Desolace and Feralas on Kalimdor, then the boat from Ratchet to Booty Bay for Stranglethorn and the Swamp of Sorrows. Keep a lure on along the coasts — see fishing lures.
◆Step 3. Turn In
Return to Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh and hand in the four fish. He trains Artisan Fishing on the spot, and your skill can now climb to 300 — the fishing pools of Azshara and Feralas help a lot.

The FC-5000 Pole Is a Different Quest
Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 (+25 Fishing) is not given by Nat. Katoom the Angler in Revantusk Village, the Hinterlands, awards it for the Horde quest Snapjaws, Mon!: kill 15 level 49–50 Saltwater Snapjaws along the coast. Alliance players cannot obtain it in 1.12.1. Compare every pole in the fishing poles hub.
Tips for x5
- Reach 225 early: the Expert book in Booty Bay requires skill 125.
- Desolace and Stranglethorn are contested — keep an eye out while fishing.
- Bring a hat and lures — see fishing gear.
Common Mistakes
- Fishing similar water in a neighbouring zone — quest fish only bite on their own shore.
- Expecting a pole from Nat — his quest gives Artisan rank, not a pole.
- Skipping Old Man Heming's book — without Expert rank you cannot reach 225.
