Aggro radius (aggro range) is the distance at which a mob notices a player and charges into combat. Understanding this radius and the "leash" separates a clean pull from a random death under three packs. It's the foundation of safe progress through dungeons and zones in WoW Classic.

Совет

Level difference decides everything. A mob 3–4 levels above you aggros from noticeably farther and hits more often; a mob far below you barely reacts. Always check the target's name colour before walking in close.

What aggro radius depends on

The base radius at equal level is about 20 yards. Beyond that it changes:

FactorEffect on radius
Mob above your levelradius grows (~+1 yard per level)
Mob below your levelradius shrinks
Approach from behindmob notices later
Stealth/invisibilityradius shrinks sharply

That's why grey and green mobs barely bother you while red ones notice from afar. It ties directly to line of sight: around a corner the mob can't see you.

Social aggro

Vanilla mobs often stand in packs and share aggro: pulling one frequently wakes neighbours within its radius — this is social aggro. So packs are taken carefully: a ranged shot or spell peels one target, it's pulled around a corner (LoS pull) and dealt with there without disturbing the rest. The tighter the pack, the more important crowd control.

Leash and evade

Every mob has a leash — a maximum distance from its spawn point. Pull it too far and the mob evades: it turns, runs home, fully restores its health and is immune on the way back. Kiting an enemy mob always stays within the leash, or the effort and threat reset to zero.

Stealth and detection

Stealth cuts aggro radius almost to nothing, letting you sneak past a pack. But some mobs have detection — they see the stealthed at short range, especially if they're higher level. Rogues and druids account for this when routing past elites.

Aggro radius on the WowX5 x5 server

On WowX5 x5 aggro radius, leashing and social aggro work classically. Careful line-of-sight pulls and respecting the leash save the group grief in dungeons and on the road to raids like Molten Core.

FAQ

How does aggro radius work in WoW Classic?

Aggro radius is the distance at which a mob notices a player and attacks. It's about 20 yards at equal level; for each level of difference the radius grows or shrinks by roughly a yard, so mobs far above your level aggro from a distance.

What is a mob's leash?

The leash is the maximum distance a mob can travel from its spawn point. Pull it too far and the mob evades: it turns, runs home, fully heals and becomes immune — the pull is lost.

How do I reduce aggro radius?

Stealth (rogue Stealth, invisibility) and approaching from behind both reduce it — mobs notice you later from the back. Skilled players sneak past packs and grab only the target they want without waking neighbours.
