Threat Reduction — how DPS and healers escape
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruPulling threat off the tank is a sure way to die. So DPS and healers must not only hold their damage but also know how to shed threat when the numbers creep toward the danger threshold. Each class has its own tools — from a full aggro wipe to a gentle few-percent reduction.
Shed threat early, not when the mob has already turned. Feign Death or Vanish work best before you pull the target — otherwise you may not make it in time.
Why shed threat
If your threat crosses the threshold (110% in melee, 130% at range), the mob turns to you. For a cloth mage or a healer that often means instant death — they are not built to take a hit.
So burst DPS use threat-reduction abilities to 'dive' back under the tank after a strong series, and healers use them so as not to gather the whole pack. Threat reduction is the insurance that prolongs the whole group's life.
Reduction abilities by class
In WoW Classic each class has its own tool:
| Class | Ability | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue | Vanish | fully wipes threat, drops into stealth |
| Rogue | Feint | reduces threat of recent actions |
| Hunter | Feign Death | instantly drops all threat |
| Druid | Cower (cat) | lowers threat with an ability |
| Paladin | Blessing of Salvation | -threat on an ally |
| Priest | Fade | temporarily lowers threat |
| Warlock | Soulshatter | reduces nearby threat |
The strongest are Feign Death and Vanish: they wipe aggro entirely.
Damage control beats reduction
A reduction ability is no license to hit at full power. The best DPS first hold their damage, staying just below the tank's threat, and only then insure with a reset.
Practical habits: do not open before the tank, give them 3-5 seconds of lead, watch your resource and do not dump your whole rotation in the first moments. Discipline around the threshold saves both resets and lives.
The healer's role
Healing generates threat toward all mobs in the fight, so a healer is especially vulnerable on packs without crowd control. A healer's tools: let the tank build threat before the first big heal, avoid overhealing to full and use a class reset (priest — Fade).
If a mob does peel onto the healer, the tank's taunt saves the day — but you cannot rely on it alone.
Threat reduction on the WowX5 x5 server
On WowX5 x5 the laws of threat are classic, so shedding aggro matters as much as on official Vanilla. Master your class's Feign Death, Vanish or Feint from early levels and in a raid you become the DPS who squeezes out maximum damage without dying.

FAQ
How do you drop aggro in WoW Classic?
Hunter Feign Death and rogue Vanish fully wipe threat. Partial reductions: rogue Feint, cat-druid Cower, priest Fade, paladin Blessing of Salvation, warlock Soulshatter.
What to do if you pull aggro?
Immediately use your class threat reset (Feign Death, Vanish, Feint), run to the tank and stop damage. The tank meanwhile taunts the mob back. It is better to shed threat early, before the pull.
Why does the healer catch aggro most often?
Healing gives threat toward every mob in the fight at once, and on an uncontrolled pack it stacks. So the healer waits for the tank to build threat and does not heal preemptively.
