Xavius: Azshara's counselor and the first satyr
Xavius was the chief counselor of Queen Azshara and leader of the Highborne, the one who opened Azeroth to the Burning Legion. For his service he was transformed into the first satyr — and from him came that whole cursed race WoW Classic players slay by the thousands.

◆The queen's counselor
Ten thousand years ago Xavius ruled the Highborne — the magical nobility of the night elves. His eyes had been replaced with magical lenses, and his thirst for power had no limits. It was he who convinced Azshara to draw ever more power from the Well of Eternity.
◆A gate for the Legion
The Well's boundless magic drew Sargeras's attention. Xavius and the Highborne began building a portal to let demons into Azeroth. Thus began the War of the Ancients.
◆Defeat and transformation
In battle with the young druid Malfurion Xavius was defeated. Sargeras did not forgive the failure — he punished him by reshaping him into a goat-legged creature. Xavius became the first satyr and began turning other elves into satyrs himself.
◆Satyrs in WoW Classic
Xavius's descendants appear in many Kalimdor zones: the satyrs of Satyrnaar in Ashenvale, the Jadefire tribe in Felwood, the Legashi and Haldarr in Azshara. Their camps are a common quest target for players of both factions.
◆Shadow of the Nightmare
In later novels Warcraft lore links Xavius to the Emerald Nightmare that poisons the Emerald Dream. That corruption is already felt in Classic through Ysera's possessed dragons.
◆Why it matters
Xavius explains the origin of the satyrs and how the night elves' magical pride nearly doomed the world. It is key to the lore of all Kalimdor.
